Stuttgart

The meeting will take place in the Palace of the University of Hohenheim. The Hohenheim Palace is located in the south of Stuttgart, surrounded by the fertile Filder areas and bordered by the Stuttgart city districts Plieningen and Birkach. The former summer residence of Herzog Carl Eugen von Württemberg is in the midst of expansive parks and the Hohenheim botanical gardens. In its current form, Hohenheim Palace was built on the model of Versailles.

The meeting is organized by the Weed Science Department of the Institute of Phytomedicine. The institute has it’s 80th anniversary in 2019 and consists of the departments for molecular phytopathology, applied entomology, weed science and a chemical analysis laboratory. Research in the Weed Science department covers topics from Precision Weed Control via UAVs to herbicide evaluation to weed seed predation and cover crops.

Stuttgart was founded back in the early 13th century and you can still find churches and castles from the 15th century spread inside the city. The majority of Stuttgart lies in a bowl-shaped valley at the banks of the river “Neckar”. Stuttgart is home of the famous car brands Mercedes Benz and Porsche. Nowadays the city has excellence clusters in many high-tech branches like aerospace, mobility, engineering and IT. It hosts the second largest festival in Germany after the Oktoberfest in Munich and produces the beer brand “Dinkelacker”.
